Love is often deceptive: not just the people in love but also the ones witnessing it. With the rise of social media and in our everyday lives, we only see the purity and outside appearances, yet we never see the sometimes dirty and trash filled, weed-grown, uncared for inner thoughts.

The bystander effect phenomenon was the main source of inspiration for this piece. With the gradual rise of living costs in Vancouver, there have been more and more reports of crime. One story, in particular, stands out: a brazen robbery in broad daylight where a masked male robbed an elderly lady. Videos of the event surfaced, and most people simply watched it happen. Some took out their phones to record videos or perhaps called the police. Although it is understandable to not want to get involved in something that seemingly has nothing to do with oneself, doing nothing can be as bad as committing the crime.

This piece took inspiration from dreamcatcher shape and is created through a mashup of my childhood desires. As a child, I had a fascination with different types of fabrics. The different materials of clothing and accessories were always interesting to me, and I would often beg my mom to take me out shopping for various knick-knacks and fabrics with different materials. Those shopping trips even to this day are treasured memories, and I really enjoy looking back at those times because my desires were so easily satisfied. Now, as I am approaching adulthood, I sometimes struggle with the disconnect because as I grow older, my dreams become harder to achieve and can only be realized through my own perseverance.
